FAQ's
What happens during the Certification Program?
During the Certification Program you are evaluated in 3 ways—participation in groups, a written exercise, and an oral exercise. Sunday through Wednesday you will hear a lecture on a specific skill. View Program Content.
Then you go to a room with 7 other participants, a video camera, and a Teaching Fellow (a CPE who has been trained to facilitate these groups). You practice the skill in front of the camera, watch the video tape of the exercise, and then receive feedback from everyone in the group. You are evaluated on your participation—not on how well you do the exercise.
Sunday evening you are given a written in-basket exercise based on 9 core health care management courses. The exercise has to be turned in at 8:00am Wednesday morning.
Thursday morning you make a 5-minute presentation to a panel of health care executives and a video camera describing your management skills and accomplishments. Then panelists will ask a couple of questions about your presentation and questions about medical management education resources and mentoring. We want all CPEs to be willing to mentor others who are new to the field. You are evaluated on your description of your management skills and accomplishments, your presentation style, and your answers to the questions.
