Barbara J. Linney, MA
Barbara J. Linney is currently Vice President of the Certifying Commission in Medical Management, an affiliate of the American College of Physician Executives. She previously served in a number of roles involving career management issues within ACPE.
Barbara is known for her work in career counseling, management development, and communications training. Barbara’s background includes one-on-one counseling, seminar presentations, published articles, and college-level teaching. She is author of the books, A Career Guide for Physician Executives, 2nd edition of Hope for the Future, Turn Your Face: How to Be Heard and Get What You Want Most of the Time, and co-author of the book Physician Executives: What, Why and How, 2nd Edition. She is a regular contributor of articles on career management issues to Physician Executive Journal (PEJ, a bimonthly publication of ACPE.
Barbara is a presenter in the Certification Program to become a Certified Physician Executive and in the Coaching and Mentoring program. She helps design and deliver educational programs for numerous offerings of ACPE and is ACPE’s career counselor. She has been especially active in developing career management material for ACPE’s Web site offerings.
College members have heard her speak on topics such as Improving Interpersonal Communications, Conflict Management, Delivering Effective Presentations, Conducting Effective Meetings, and Writing for the Physician Executive.
Barbara is a graduate of the University of Richmond in Virginia, earned her master's degree at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte, and has completed the coursework for her doctorate at the University of South Florida in Tampa.
